The script Nik and I have chosen is ‘21 Grams’. It is about 2 men having a conversation in a jail cell. The men are named Reverend John and Jack Jordan. Jack is in prison because he killed a man and two children, which he then confesses to Rev. John believes that he feels betrayed and abandoned by God. This is an angry confrontation between the two. This can help me get to my goal because this angry confrontation really requires me to stay in the emotion and to stay serious throughout the performance. I will be playing Jack as he is much angrier than Rev. He wants to tell Rev that god has betrayed him while yelling. I am not an angry person, so this will be a good challenge for me to tackle. I have struggled with the two emotions of sadness and anger. This play will teach me how to stay in the emotion for a long time. I will try to ignore laughter in the audience. I will try to really sell the emotion while performing so the audience will believe my emotion.
A challenge I have when playing emotions is that I sometimes laugh. Also, sometimes I let myself get out of the emotion because I get distracted. Also, I laugh the most while doing sadness.
A goal to set myself is to not laugh at all during my next performance of emotions. Another goal is to stay focused enough to keep my character the whole time.
I will achieve these goals by blocking out distractions and only focusing on what I’m doing.
I will be able to perform completely in character by reaching these goals. My performances will be much better and captivating.
Thanks for joining me!
